Verna Swinney
Toddler Teacher
My name is Vema J. Swinney. I am a native resident of Camden, N.J. I am married to
Rev. Michael Swinney. We have four young adult children, and eleven grand children:
nine boys and two girls.
I am excited and proud to be joining the team at Kiddie Korner Nursery School. because of my love for teaching and for children. I also appreciate the professional opportunities that Kiddie Korner has to offer to me as a staff member. I am looking forward to helping your children learn and grow. I find Kiddie Korner to be a warm and welcoming place for staff and I value what I have observed of the educationally focused curriculum for the children.
I bring to Kiddie Korner many years of experience in working with students of all ages. I graduated in 1992 from Glassboro State College with a BA Degree in "Teacher of the Handicap Student". During my career I have worked with students of all levels and various abilities. I believe all children can learn if someone takes the time to identify their learning style and works with them to support, acknowledge and encourage their achievements.
Starting as a teenager, I've worked in several childcare centers including the Martin Luther King Jr. Child Development Center (a center accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children/NAEYC), where I worked for twelve years. The B . P.U.M. Childcare Center, which published one of the first curriculum models for Infants and Toddlers in the field of Early Childhood Education, where I worked for four years. I worked for two years at the Marie M. Katzenbach Jewish Center. As a Group Teacher during this time, I have worked with a variety of students of all ages and abilities. I am a devout Christian who attends the Baptist Temple Church. Among my other activities, I teach Sunday School, sing on the choir, and serve as a Biblical Counselor for the Church and the community.
I am currently a tutor for the Adult Literacy program in Camden, helping adults acquire basic reading skills in order to function in a literate world. I served the Camden Board of Education for over twenty years teaching various grade levels of English , Math, and Reading as a long term Substitute Teacher.
I am excited to bring my experience, wisdom, and knowledge to share with you the
families, students, and staff of Kiddie Korner Nursery School.
.
Thank you for having me.
